One of the most powerful ways you can quit, is to be bold. You are starting out on a new life, and if you remember this is a path of righteousness and strength, you are going to do well. You have many talents and skills, you can use them to work through your quit.
You will need to use all of your reasons to quit to keep your quit. For this reason, it will be important for you to have close remembrance of why you decided to quit smoking. What was it that stuck with you, and really empowered you to say, "Yes, I am going to quit Smoking!"? You need to have a reason to quit, and it needs to be your own reason-something very close and quiet to your heart.
Usually our brains says, yes we want to quit to be healthy. We want to save money. We need to quit to allow a life insurance policy to lower in cost. We are ready to quit because it smells bad to other non-smokers. We want to quit to be part of the non-smoking community.
These are all true and valid reasons, but they are so vain and outside of your inner core truth. What will really set you straight on your path to quit, is to find that one reason, that rings true for you. You need to have a story.
For my mother-in-law, her quit story began when she discovered she was pregnant with my husband. She was early in her pregnancy, and during those years, it was just being discovered that pregnant mothers, had smaller babies, and that smoking could be bad for the baby. Many mothers before this time, smoked around their children, and thought nothing about it. Smoking was not seen as unhealthy until the late sixties and early 70's . Even today, there are some disbelievers who think smoking has nothing to do with health.
But, she was informed by my brother-in-law, who told Mom that she had to quit, it was bad for the baby. He said, Mom, that is not OK for the baby. She was amazed, but she asked around, and the information that he received from school was correct. That did it, and she decided to quit just like that.
The fact that her young son, told her to quit, and backed up his reasoning with facts from school, was a blow to her excuse factory as a smoker. It destroyed any and all excuses she had to continue to smoke. Her entire basis to continue to smoke was completely removed. The quit was very successful. She had lots of complaints from other family members, friends, and discussions with many smokers she knew. They all did not support her decision.
What they did not realize is she had her aha moment, and her quit reason. Her son, and her unborn baby were all she needed to quit. It was a powerful quit moment. I hope you all can find that power from your life very soon. You too, can come up with your quit. Can you find it? Will someone give you a quit reasoning? Will you have one person to support you?
I know you can find that person. I know you can find that experience. Be open minded to it. You have probably had many times where you were in a situation where an aha or quit smoking moment was presented. But, you may have not been open minded, too stubborn, or not ready to commit to it. You need to be aware, wow, I am really ready for my moment. I am open minded to new ideas. I can act on it when it happens.
It has to be your own precious ping in time. You can not create it, you can not logically process it. Do not even try. Find your mindset open, and let your moment come to you. I am so excited for you! Let it happen, and when you really decide to quit, you will be armed with a powerful machine gun, ready to take on any challenges that come at you.
